A good power cord shouldn't produce noise of any kind, or pick it up from the listening room environment. I typically pay $40 to $70 for good power cords, and substantially more for power amps that draw lots of current, and short runs from the wall to the power conditioner, where shielding is more critical. The difference cabling makes in a money-no-object AV system can be astounding, though with consumer mid-fi components you're not likely to notice the difference. Second only to
my two homes in Boston and on Cape Cod, I've invested more in this fantastic quest for perfection than in anything else, Norman Rockwell, Toulouse Lautrec, and Infiniti/Acura automobiles nothwithstanding.
If there's another one of these power cords available @ $40, I'd like to buy
and try one. Custom house and the lower-end Cardas power cords suffice very
well, with a BMI Whale running into the Rowland mc-6 driving my main
soundstage the only power cord I ever paid over $100 for [3-meters @ $375.]
Of course my printer and all of the printers at the office used the power cord supplied with the
printer, Why would one not use that cord? One possibiliby is that your power strip just doesn't have the power capability (too small cord or something else) or just plain faulty. Since you haven't identified whether it is the power strip or the power cord, it is possible that the
power cord you used is defective in some way.
